Purpose

  • Overseeing the coordination engineering activities related to Technical Cost Reduction of selected vehicles in support of the Cost Optimization Committee.

Major Responsibilities

  • Represent the Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA) Cost Optimization Committee in technical decisions required for cost management during the entire Product Development Process. 
  • Led cross-functional teams across Hyundai including R&D, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Planning, Marketing, Logistics, and others.
  • Engineer and design improvements to current vehicles to reduce cost, while improving quality, reliability, and durability.
  • Self-generate ideas, develop concepts, prove concepts, and follow through to production.
  • Develop innovative solutions to improve profitability by considering specifications, cost, mass, performance, and quality perspectives.
  • Create and present technical reports to communicate project status and results.
  • Track and report the status of all ideas every week.

Authority

  • Conduct, as needed, cross-functional quality and engineering meetings with the HMG.
  • Document and manage incoming cost optimization ideas, create validation plans, and ensure execution.
  • Represent the Cost Optimization Organization in VA/VE related activities.
  • Responsible to meet technical Cost reduction targets.

Education

~ Master’s degree a plus
~ Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.

Related Experience

  • Six or more years of technical experience in automotive OEM or Supplier roles.
  • Experience in Design, Engineering, Purchasing, or Finance in the Automotive industry is desirable.
  • Knowledge of US vehicle homologation requirements is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the design, manufacturing, and assembly of core components is required.
  • Working experience in one or more areas of the vehicle is required: body, closures, mechanisms, exterior trim, interior trim, seats, etc.
  • The ideal candidate is skilled at and enjoys technical problem-solving.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving ability.
  • Strong data management, general and statistical analysis and reporting.
  • Experience utilizing Computer Aided Design tools (capability in CATIA V5 ideal, but not required)
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings
  • Ability to use standard automotive assembly tools

Certification

  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Satisfactory driving record is required. 

Physical Requirements

Actively participate in hands-on vehicle tear-down and related activities
Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Able to travel internationally
Able to travel domestically
Travel: 5% - 15%

$86,800.00 - $124,000.00 Annual
