Purpose

  • Manage team of engineers responsible for executing field actions after a decision is made that a Hyundai vehicle model contains a safety related defect and/or a possible noncompliance with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). Own the process of field action execution working with a broad cross-functional team and own major system and process enhancements.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate related Hyundai groups aimed at remedying Safety issues by coordinating and launching field actions to customers.
  • Identify and develop innovative technical approaches to process field action activities including tracking every deliverable.
  • Lead the Development of the Global Field Action Management System to handling all activities involving the VIN including owner name and address retrieval, processing, and mailing, feeding all customer systems including warranty, NHTSA VIN look-up, Owner Center and others and full reconciliation of VINs to make sure that no VIN is left behind at any point in data processing.
  • Actively monitor the results of field action completion rates and establish a system to develop default rates bases on past performance by make, model, Model year and other recall characteristics like complexity and perceived risk
  • Develop advanced outreach strategies to ensure completion rates are above historical internal and external rates of repair.
  • Develop a suite of completion tracking tools to be used by region, zone, dealer, and any other geographic group to assess rates and performance to targets by all critical support groups.
  • Ensure that service parts are purge of suspects parts.

Major Responsibilities (continued)

  • Work with suppliers to speed part supply availability and set-up fair share allocation of parts plans for each region.
  • Keep Senior Leaders informed of progress and challenges.
  • Participate in vehicle safety forums, technical conferences, meetings, panels, etc. and internally disseminate the knowledge gained.
  • Work with the related Hyundai groups to identify potential anomalies in field fix performance and trigger immediately the related deep-dive analysis.
  • Participate in Safety Decision Meetings as needed.

Authority

  • Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions.  This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform of critical issues identification.
  • Evaluate and validate field action repairs related to recall campaigns on safety matters.
    Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing, and supplier affiliates.
  • Lead the engineering reviews and resolution of the vehicle safety related claims.

Education

~ Bachelor’s degree required.
~ Master’s degree a plus

Related Experience

  • Eight or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in conducting timely field action launches to address equipment failure modes.
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data.
  • Five or more years of experience in the automotive business, including, vehicle safety, design, testing, field reliability evaluation, and service is preferred
  • Automotive assembly plant or component manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Results-driven with excellent project and program management skills.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts and leadership within the organization and creatively problem solve needed to complete investigations.
  • Ability to concurrently manage several investigations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify and utilize the corporation expertise related to the issue under investigation.
  • Thorough automotive technical knowledge required.  
  • Ability to read and comprehend federal regulations related to automotive safety.
  • Ability to accurately analyze high-volume technical data.
  • Ability to present investigation findings to all pertinent levels of the corporation.
  • Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of various HMA and HMC legal, quality, engineering, testing, and service departments.

$107,800.00 - $154,000.00 Annual
