Location
Purpose
~ Comprehensive understanding of state and federal regulations and regular monitoring of Hyundai’s regulatory performance to ensure the company is on a compliance trajectory.
~ Communicate requirements of state and federal regulations within Hyundai and work with affected departments to develop compliant sales strategies.
~ Act as the primary communication liaison between Hyundai and the regulatory departments within global headquarters and HATCI.
~ Support efforts to expand electrified vehicle sales by identifying unique sales opportunities.
~ Monitor and communicate regulatory issues across subsidiary organizations to stakeholders within global headquarters.
Major Responsibilities
~ Monitor state/federal emissions and fuel economy regulations such as CAFE/GHG, ZEV, Tier 3/LEVIII, etc. and report on their impact to Hyundai including phase-in requirements and timelines for implementation.
~ Maintain regulatory performance documents and spreadsheets that tracking compliance performance and ensure that they are accurate and up to date.
~ Track and report on Hyundai’s regulatory performance, including regular updates and projections, to ensure all affected departments understand current statuses.
~ Monitor, understand and report on federal and state incentives’ impact on Hyundai electrified vehicle sales and Hyundai’s compliance strategy.
~ Develop countermeasures to ensure regulatory compliance, including recommendations for model-level sales, trim mix, incentives, marketing, etc. and work with affected Hyundai departments to implement.
Major Responsibilities (continued)
~ Work with Hyundai Product Planning, Sales, and Finance and HMC regulatory teams to create long term product plans that are regulatory compliant:
~ Create and maintain regulatory forecast models that project compliance trajectory.
~ Create compliance scenarios based on sales forecasts and model mix plan.
~ Make model, powertrain, and drivetrain recommendations for compliance based on sales and profit maximizing strategies.
~ Support HMC and HATCI regulatory efforts including providing official Hyundai documentation to regulatory agencies and meetings with regulatory officials.
~ Develop long-term electrification line-up strategies (HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV):
~ Develop long-term technology forecasts to support vehicle decision making.
~ Identify unique advantages/opportunities for the different technologies from both a customer and regulatory perspective to help grow sales and meet compliance targets.
Authority
~ Position requires performing activities that ensure Hyundai compliance with federal and state emissions and fuel economy regulations that affect Hyundai as a distributor, rather than Hyundai as a manufacturer.
~ Position requires attaining and maintaining full awareness and understanding of federal and state technical related regulations that may impact the company's business.
~ Position requires maintaining clear communication channels to HATCI, HMC and various Hyundai departments to assure that Hyundai has full knowledge of federal and state technical related regulations that may impact the company’s business.
~ Position requires ensuring that Hyundai departments take steps to assure that Hyundai complies with federal and state technical related regulations that affect the company.
~ Position requires presenting before executive teams in the US and Korea and is responsible for significant decision making in North America Subsidiaries.
Education
Related Experience
~ Ten years of experience of which at least five years of directly related experience in legal/automotive, technical areas of the automobile business, with experience preferably in technical compliance matters, or design or testing.
~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.
Skills/Knowledge
~ Ability to gather relevant technical regulatory information from multiple government and industry sources.
~ Ability to accurately analyze technical regulatory information and determine how it may impact Hyundai.
~ Ability to develop and provide solutions to ensure Hyundai compliance with technical resolutions.
~ Proficient with Excel and other data analytic tools for creating compliance strategies.
~ Ability to create reports and PowerPoint presentations and be able to communicate technical matters to non-technical people.
~ Working knowledge of different powertrain technologies including operation, strengths & weaknesses, technology limitations, etc.
~ Ability to represent the company in a professional manner to government agencies and other companies.
~ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple simultaneous projects.
