~ Develop Purchasing Department goals and objectives both short-term and long-term.

~ Develop process improvements and ensure alignment with corporate direction in coordination with Department Executive Director.

~ Manage the daily operations of the Purchasing Department in support of Hyundai Motor America (“HMA”).

~ Supervise, motivate and provide leadership to Buyers, assign Buyers to support specific departments, plan and implement training of departments and Buyers in corporate purchasing policies and procedures, and review and negotiate costs, purchase terms and contracts.

~ Maintain the corporate purchasing policies and ensure that all purchases adhere to the policies.

~ Manage the consolidated company program for Office Services and Supplies.


Major Responsibilities:

~ Develop, propose and implement Purchasing Department goals, process improvements and alignment of Department with corporate direction in coordination with Department Executive Director.

~ Manage the operations of the Purchasing Department and supervise Buyers as they assist HMA departments in RFP generation, bidding evaluation, supplier selection, PR/PO issuance and contract generation.

~ Train and assist Buyers to be effective in providing the full scope of purchasing functions and add value to the departments they assist.

~ Train departments in purchasing policies and procedures and encourage involving Buyers at the inception of projects.

~ Be personally involved in most high dollar projects in supervising the purchasing process, including RFP specifications, bid reviews, price and terms evaluation and negotiations, supplier qualification and selection, and contract terms and conditions resolution.

~ Liaise with other departments, particularly finance and legal departments.

~ Become competent in understanding and use of the SAP and BPEL purchasing software and system and ensure appropriate training and support is provided to current and new users companywide.

~ Manage the company-consolidated budget and program for HMA office services and supplies.

~ Manage, train, effectively coach, counsel, and develop staff. Utilize the diverse talents of the staff by efficiently managing staff’s time, materials and budget while focusing on the goals and vision of the company.



~ PO signature authority.

~ PO countersignature authority.

~ Contracts countersignature authority.

~ Expense Report approval for managers and staff.

~ Prepare and conduct Merit reviews for subordinates.

~ Conduct hiring interviews and provide hiring recommendation.

~ Prepare and manage Purchasing Department and Office Services/Supplies budget.

~ Address purchasing issues, propose solutions, train and implement policies and procedures.

~ Address and counsel staff on performance issues.



~ Bachelor’s degree preferred

~ Master’s degree a plus

~ CRM desired


Related Experience:

~ Ten or more years of experience of which at least eight years of directly related experience with in purchasing management and procurement of services, equipment and commodities.

~ Three to five years of supervisory experience desired.

~ Extensive experience in purchasing marketing, merchandising, experiential and promotions services and major services projects.

~ OEM automotive experience preferred.

~ Heavy experience and involvement in integrated purchasing/accounting/financial systems (SAP preferred) and clear understanding of general accounting practices.


Skill / Knowledge:

~ Strong organizational, planning, delegation and follow-up capabilities.

~ Accomplished interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

~ Experienced and wise negotiations skills

~ Effective verbal and written skills.

~ Competent computer skills and capability in MS Word, Excel, with SAP purchasing software preferred.
