Purpose

~ Support development of long-term model line-up strategies and identify new product and feature opportunities by studying market, consumer, and government trends.

~ Work with regulatory compliance and product planning teams to develop GHG, CAFE, and ZEV compliant product and sales strategies.

~ Ensure Hyundai Motor America lineup and production strategies are optimized for market demand and profit optimization, including strategies related to sourcing of key electric vehicle components including batteries.

~ Lead efforts to grow electric vehicle adoption by improving a customers’ electrification journey. 

~ Support efforts to ensure Hyundai Motor America is on a sustainability pathway.

Major Responsibilities

~ Work with Product Planning, Sales, and Finance to create long term electrified product strategies that establish Hyundai as an electrification leader.  Make model, powertrain, and drivetrain recommendations that maximize sales and profit while keeping Hyundai on a compliant trajectory.

~ Identify unique advantages/opportunities for the different vehicle technologies from both a customer and regulatory perspective to help grow sales and meet compliance targets; develop electrification technology forecasts to support vehicle and lineup decision making.

~ Report on Hyundai’s regulatory performance, to ensure all affected departments understand status; effectively communicate how line-up and powertrain decisions impact GHG, CAFE, and ZEV regulatory compliance. 

~ Monitor and report on federal and state incentives’ programs and their impact on Hyundai electrified vehicle sales and compliance strategy.  Support efforts that ensure production strategies are optimized based on IRA localization and battery material sourcing requirements. 

Major Responsibilities (continued)

~ Work with and support Marketing, Sales, Eco Mobility, etc. to identify customer pain points during their electrification journey, from electric vehicle consideration, through vehicle ownership, and vehicle end of life.

~ Provide strategic guidance on requirements and advances in battery technology, vehicle charging, battery recycling, etc. to key partners within Hyundai Motor North America.

~ Understand requirements and support efforts to reach carbon neutrality targets at Hyundai Motor America.

Authority

~ Position requires attaining and maintaining understanding of federal and state regulations pertaining to CAFE, GHG, ZEV, etc.

~ Position requires ensuring that future model lineup complies with federal and state related regulations that affect the company.

~ Position requires presenting before executive teams in the US and Korea and is responsible for significant decision making in North America Subsidiaries.

Education

~ Must be a high school graduate
~ Bachelor’s degree preferred
~ Master’s degree a plus

Related Experience

~ Ten+ years of relevant experience of which at least five years of directly related experience in legal/automotive, technical areas of the automobile business, with experience preferably in technical compliance matters, or design or testing.

 ~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.

Skills/Knowledge

~ Ability to gather relevant technical regulatory information from multiple government and industry sources.

~ Ability to accurately analyze technical regulatory information and   determine how it may impact Hyundai.

~ Ability to develop and provide solutions to ensure Hyundai compliance with technical resolutions.

~ Proficient with Excel and other data analytic tools for creating compliance strategies.

~ Ability to create reports and PowerPoint presentations and be able to communicate technical matters to non-technical people.

~ Working knowledge of different powertrain
