Purpose
~ This leadership role will support the NASO to work within HATCI, HMNA and HMC and with external stakeholders to build and manage Hyundai’s Safety Test Investigation Laboratory (STIL) located at the HATCI facility in Superior Township, MI.
Major Responsibilities
~ Oversees the progress for constructing the Safety Lab, working with BCCG and HATCI personnel to address any/all questions or concerns.
~ Establish a staffing and hiring plan to manage future testing resources at the STIL.
~ Establish an operating budget that supports 2023CY and future budgets.
~ Establish and approve a governance plan for resource usage, project management.
~ Oversee the installation of testing equipment by vendors in 2023 to ensure quality and completeness.
~ Works closely with the Director of System Safety and Processes in Michigan on investigations and safety field failure testing.
~ Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment complete with appropriate test facility safety protocols and implementing motor vehicle safety training for all NASO employees and all general HMNA employees.

Authority
~ Position requires a high level of safety testing technical expertise and independent judgment to assist the HMNA Chief Safety Officer in the support of safety investigations through field-testing evaluations.
~ Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles to assist in the identification, analysis and evaluation of safety conditions that have the potential to result in customer dissatisfaction, or vehicle safety recalls.
~ Position requires gathering and analyzing safety designs, root cause analysis and approaches and techniques to document the HMNA safety investigation process.
~ Position requires interfacing with many business units including HATCI, NAQC, HMC.
Education
Related Experience
~ Fifteen plus years of experience, of which at least five years are directly related experience in safety technical areas at an automotive OEM or supplier, with experience preferably in technical vehicle engineering and safety analysis.
~ Minimum 5 years direct Safety office experience required, working with NHTSA and DOT.
~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.
Skills/Knowledge
~ Comprehensive experience documenting technical and quality processes.
~ Ability to lead a safety driven team of technical professionals to investigate safety field issues and help develop strategies for remedy actions.
~ Ability to accurately analyze technical data.
~ Ability to communicate concerning technical issues and concepts with persons from HMA and HMC Quality, Engineering, Testing and Service, and with persons at law firms.
~ Ability to create accurate reports for submittal to government agencies.
~ Ability to develop presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to gather information from government, industry and other electronic resources.
~ Ability to analyze data and create charts and graphs and PowerPoint presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to represent the company in a professional manner to government agencies, other companies and law firms.
~ Ability to provide deposition and trial testimony as a technical expert witness.
~ Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of HMA and HMC quality, engineering, testing, and service and with persons at law firms.
