Purpose

~ Manage team of engineers responsible for conducting extensive investigations that determine the probability of a Hyundai vehicle model containing a safety related defect and/or a possible noncompliance with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

 

Major Responsibilities

~ Lead and coordinate related Hyundai groups aimed at identifying and resolving vehicle safety items, and liaise with all other Hyundai teams involved with these activities.

~ Identify and develop innovative analytical approaches to detect potential vehicle safety issues

~ Actively monitor results, effectiveness and promotion of engineer led examination of consumer complaint data, field reports, legal cases, supplier information; dealer reports, plant information, other safety recalls, compliance and consumer metric testing, NHTSA VOQ data and outliers in warranty data, identify possible safety related defects and/or FMVSS non-compliances associated with Hyundai production vehicles.

~ Once identified as a possible issue, conduct a thorough data-driven, but timely, investigation to determine the severity of the occurrence of the issue, the root cause, the number of vehicles affected, the ability of consumers to detect the issue and all probable corrective actions related to this issue.

~ Actively track and manage identified issues based on assigned vehicle component responsibilities throughout complete field fix cycle

~ Monitor field status and coordinate vehicle and part investigations.

~ Conduct field inspections of post-event vehicles or in-service vehicles at dealerships or alternate locations, if necessary.

~ Participate in vehicle safety forums, technical conferences, meetings, panels, etc. and internally disseminate the knowledge gained.

~ Work with the related Hyundai groups to identify potential anomalies in field fix performance and trigger immediately the related deep-dive analysis.

~ Review periodically the field information on component and subsystem functionality with focus on safety and derive all required action plans.

~ Provide a concise presentation to upper management that clearly defines the issue(s) and the parameters outlined above.

~ Provide recommendations to upper management on possible field action for the identified issues.

~ Provide immediate notification to upper management of potential catastrophic defects requiring stop sale or immediate field action.

~ Communicate with NHTSA ODI investigators about open investigations, emerging issues, industry trends and NHTSA ODI positions on various recall matters.

 

Authority

    ~ Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions.  This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform of critical issues identification.

~ Evaluate and validate field action repairs related to recall campaigns on safety matters.
~ Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing and supplier affiliates

~ Lead the engineering reviews and resolution of the vehicle safety related claims.

 

Education

 ~ Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

     ~ Master’s degree a plus but not required.

 

   Related Experience

    ~ Eight or more years of relevant work experience.

    ~ Experience in conducting timely investigations into equipment failure modes.

    ~ Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data.

    ~ Five or more years of experience in the automotive business, including, vehicle safety, design, testing, field reliability evaluation, and service is preferred.

    ~ Automotive assembly plant or component manufacturing experience a plus.

    ~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.

 

   Skill/Knowledge

    ~ Results-driven with excellent project and program management skills.

    ~ Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts and leadership within the organization and creatively problem solve needed to complete investigations.

    ~ Ability to concurrently manage a number of investigations in a timely manner.

    ~ Ability to identify and utilize the corporation expertise related to the issue under investigation.

    ~ Thorough automotive technical knowledge required.  

    ~ Specialized knowledge of specific vehicle system or performance areas such as powertrain, chassis, electrical, crashworthiness, etc.

    ~ Ability to read and comprehend federal regulations related to automotive safety.

    ~ Ability to accurately analyze high-volume technical data.

     ~ Ability to present investigation findings to all pertinent levels of the corporation.

    ~ Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of various HMA and HMC legal, quality, engineering, testing, and service departments.

    ~  Ability to establish a professional relationship, work well and communicate clearly with NHTSA Investigators on identified issues of concern.

~ Must be able to travel to support periodic industry action meetings pertaining to safety-defect data analysis best practices.

~ Must be able to travel to support ongoing field investigations related to ongoing defects assessment concerns.

Compensation:

$125,800.00 - $170,200.00 Annual
