~ Direct and manage engineering activities related to Technical Cost Reduction of selected vehicles in support of the Cost Optimization Committee.

Major Responsibilities

~ Represent the Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA) Cost Optimization Committee in technical decisions required for cost management during the Product Development and after production launch. 

~ Lead and participate in cross functional coordination with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) business units including R&D, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Planning, Marketing, Logistics and others.

~ Engineer and design improvements to current vehicles to reduce cost, while improving quality, reliability and durability.

Major Responsibilities (continued)

~ Lead a group of Engineering project managers to analyze vehicle part and production costs, generate cost saving ideas, and prove out concepts with follow through to production.

~ Develop innovative solutions to improve profitability considering: specifications, cost, mass, performance and quality perspectives.

~ Create and present technical reports to communicate project status and results to executive leadership.


~ Facilitate, track, and report on Engineering team output and results.

~ Conduct, as needed, cross functional quality and engineering meetings with the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG).

~ Represent the Cost Optimization Organization in VA/VE related activities such as; cost analysis, benchmarking, and vehicle teardown, etc.

~ Responsible to meet technical Cost reduction targets.


~ Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
~ Master’s degree a plus

Related Experience

~ At least five (5) years of Design and Release Engineering in the automotive industry.

~ Knowledge of US vehicle homologation requirements a plus.

~ Knowledge of design, manufacturing and assembly of core components is required.

~ Working experience in one or more areas of the vehicle is required: body, closures, mechanisms, exterior trim, interior trim, seats, HVAC, etc.

~ The ideal candidate is someone who is skilled at, and enjoys technical problem solving.


~ Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

~ Strong written and oral communication skills.

~ Strong analytical/problem solving ability.

~ Strong data management/general and statistical analysis/reporting.

~ Experience utilizing Computer Aided Design tools (capability in CATIA V5 ideal, but not required).

~ Experience working on high-volume international automotive products is a plus.

~Korean as second language is a plus.

Certification Required

~ Valid Driver's License.

~ Able to be insured for vehicle use by the company.

Occasional Lifting and/or vehicle mechanical assembly/disassembly

$132,300.00 - $196,000.00 Annual


Actual pay will be based on skills, experience and education. Our total rewards package includes base salary, bonus and benefits.
