~ Hyundai Motor America’s Sr. Manager of Public Relations’ primary focus is to develop public relations’ strategy for successful product launches, under the direction of the Sr. Group Mgr., Product PR, in an effort to earn positive coverage for the Hyundai brand and products, through all media outlets.  PR senior manager manages the development and logistics of special events; primarily media drive events and programs.  This includes managing the overall event production and PR agencies/vendors to ensure top-notch national product launches from inception to execution to successful conclusion.  Extensive planning/development and cross-functional communication with other divisions within Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai Motor North America and Hyundai Auto Canada are required, with the Sr. Mgr., PR being in the lead.


Major Responsibilities

~ Management of all logistics and strategic development of national media drive events and programs.

~Responsibilities include: program planning/creative concept, site inspection and selection, route development and execution, management of various vendors and budgets, invitation creation and selection, route development and execution, management of various vendors and budgets, invitation creation and management of media invites and media list, coordination of vehicle orders, insurance and overall events logistics.  This also includes working closely with distribution & import and the North America team to ensure vehicles are ordered and shipped, enabling us to launch vehicles prior to advertising/marketing campaigns and sales.

~Work with the Sr. Group Mgr., Product PR on the strategic planning and implementation of new model media launches for newspapers, radio, television, and social media journalists.  This includes all major auto shows, national and regional media programs.

~Work closely with Midwest Product PR manager, Social Media manager and PR agencies in the creation and execution of regional new model launches.

~Oversee the management of the National Press Fleet and work closely with the 13 offices across the country to ensure top-tier media in all locations drive the full range of Hyundai vehicles.

Major Responsibilities (continued)

~Select models/trim levels/colors and ordering of press fleet vehicles for media introductions and comparison vehicles with the intent on securing a cover on a leading enthusiast magazine, front page story, etc.  Ensure all press fleet vehicles go through the stringent press check process including service engineering sign off, prior to distributing the vehicles to selected offices.  As needed, work with the Product Planning group and facing Product PR manager in selecting the appropriate vehicle.

~Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and all campaigns, recalls, etc., performed when necessary. 

~Work with press fleet vendors to prepare bi-annual usage report.

~Introduce tactics to expose ALG and KBB (Residual-side) to Hyundai product to strengthen residuals and maximize profit.

~Work closely with outside vendors on projects and ensure all necessary documents, scope of services, schedules of compensation, etc., are complete prior to having associate submit them through the system to Director of Communications, Purchasing, and Finance departments, for approval for expenditures against the department budget.

~Lead monthly meetings to update management on the budget status, ensure accruals are properly recorded and ensure associate prepares all the purchasing documents in a timely manner.

~Work closely with the Purchasing dept. in the preparation of RFP’s, RFQ’s, contract extensions, and/or the dissolution of vendor contracts.

~Work with vendors in reconciliation of programs once the event/project is complete.


~ Independent judgment required on critical-issue decision making, problem identification, problem solving, and dealing with media on a deadline basis.


~ Must be a high school graduate
~ Bachelor’s degree preferred
~ Master’s degree a plus

Related Experience

~ Six to seven years of experience with minimum three years of automotive PR experience.

~ Knowledge of the automotive industry a plus.

~ Solid media relations background.

~Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

~Exceptional time management skills and experience meeting concurrent deadlines.

~Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

~Ability to communicate in a cross-functional environment (marketing, product planning, design, R&D, etc.)

~Budget development, tracking and management.

~Must be ready to train staff, report to management and liaise closely with other members of the division.


~ Ability to express oneself clearly, concisely, effectively and convincingly in writing and speaking.

~ Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that journalists and their readers, listeners and viewers can understand those issues.

~ Ability to prepare full range of written materials for the press including but not limited to press releases, fact sheets, specification sheets, backgrounders, white papers, etc.

~ Familiarity with word processing programs and computer presentation programs.

~ Ability to supervise photography of HMA products and select product photography for release in all necessary formats.

~ Ability so speak in public.

~Ability to use SAP.
