Location
Purpose
~ Conduct analysis, experiments, failure modes effects analysis, and testing on subsystems and components related to active field investigations and quality improvement initiatives.
Major Responsibilities
~ Exercise independent judgment to specify, recommend, and perform a variety of testing, experiments, and evaluations on material relevant to active investigations and quality improvement initiatives.
~ Use advanced knowledge to manage and prioritize multiple activities within specified delivery timeframes.
~ Create and maintain evaluation and test parameters for unique situations arising from multiple sources.
~ Develop evaluation strategies pertinent to active investigations thorough communication and collaboration with safety office engineers and investigators.
~ Develop and maintain documentation, quick-turnaround communication, and read-across of root-cause and countermeasure proposals.
~ Provide timely, clear, concise, and accurate reports to communicate results and conclusions of evaluations.
Major Responsibilities (continued)
~ Add authoritative discussion, context, and conclusions to evaluation results.
~ Conduct training for forensics and materials laboratory personnel on equipment and techniques relevant to expertise
~ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safety and quality standards are maintained.
~ Communicate effectively with Safety Office team members keeping team informed of status and progress of activities to support investigations.
~ Conduct field inspections of post-event vehicles or in-service vehicles at dealerships or alternate locations, if necessary.
~ Participate in vehicle safety forums, technical conferences, meetings, panels, etc. and internally disseminate the knowledge gained.
Authority
~ Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions. This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform of critical issues identification.
~ Evaluate and validate field action repairs related to recall campaigns on safety matters.
~ Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing and supplier affiliates.
Education
Related Experience
~ Six or more years of relevant work experience.
~ Experience in conducting laboratory operations and experiments.
~ Knowledge of specialized techniques such as CT scan, SEM, spectrometry, metallurgy, and others related to automotive forensics.
~ Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data.
~ Four or more years of experience in the automotive business, in areas such as, vehicle safety, design, testing, field reliability evaluation, materials engineering, diagnostic laboratory, or service is preferred.
~ Automotive assembly plant or component manufacturing experience a plus.
Skills/Knowledge
~ Results-driven with excellent project and program management skills.
~ Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts and leadership within the organization and creatively problem solve needed to complete investigations.
~ Ability to concurrently manage a range of experiments in a timely manner.
~ Ability to identify and utilize the corporation expertise related to the issue under investigation.
~ Thorough automotive technical knowledge required.
~ Ability to read and comprehend federal regulations related to automotive safety.
~ Ability to accurately analyze high-volume technical data.
~ Ability to present findings to all pertinent levels of the corporation.
~ Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of various HMA and HMC legal, quality, engineering, testing, and service departments.
